FQA:

Answer the following questions in 2-3 sentences based on the provided text.
1. What is the rule of Ithaar Halqe, and which six letters cause it to be applied?
2. Describe the rule of Ikhfaa Haqeqe as it applies to Noon Sakinah and Tanween.
3. Explain the conditions under which Madd Mutasel (Connected Madd) occurs and its required length.
4. What is Madd Munfasel, and how is its cause different from that of Madd Mutasel?
5. List and describe the three steps involved in the rule of Iqlab.
6. Define “Idgham with Ghunnah” and provide an example from the source text.
7. What is a Noon Mushaddad, and what is the specific rule for its pronunciation?

Answer Key

1. Ithaar Halqe is the rule to pronounce the Noon Sakinah or Tanween clearly, without any nasalization. It is applied when the Noon Sakinah or Tanween is followed by one of the six “Halqe” letters: ء, ه, ع, ح, غ, or خ.
2. Ikhfaa Haqeqe is a rule where the sound of the Noon Sakinah or Tanween is hidden and not fully pronounced. Instead, only the Ghunnah (nasal sound) is pronounced. This rule applies when Noon Sakinah or Tanween is followed by one of the 15 Ikhfaa letters, such as ف, ق, د, or ت.
3. Madd Mutasel occurs when a Madd letter, such as an Alif, is followed by a Hamzah within the same word. This “connected” elongation must be held for a length of four or five vowel counts (Harakas).
4. Madd Munfasel is an elongation of an Alif Madd for four or five vowel counts. It is distinct from Madd Mutasel because it occurs when the Alif Madd at the end of a word is followed by a Hamzah at the beginning of the next word.
5. The rule of Iqlab occurs when a Noon Sakinah is followed by the letter Ba’ (ب). Its application involves three steps: first, the Noon Sakinah is changed to a Meem (م); second, Ghunnah (nasalization) is applied; and third, Ikhfa (hiding the sound) is performed.
6. Idgham with Ghunnah is the rule where a Noon Tanween is inserted or merged into the following letter (like Meem) while applying a nasal sound (Ghunnah). This sound is held for two vowel counts, as seen in the example صُحُفٗا مُّطَهَّرَةٗ.
7. A Noon Mushaddad is a Noon (ن) that has a Shaddah symbol over it, indicating it is doubled. When reciting a Noon Mushaddad, it must be pronounced with Ghunnah (a nasal sound) for a length of two vowel counts.

Surah Al Bayyinah Translation ( Tafseer ) :

لَمۡ يَكُنِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأۡتِيَهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ

Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief](1827) until there came to them clear evidence.

رَسُولٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ يَتۡلُواْ صُحُفٗا مُّطَهَّرَةٗ

2) A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified(1828) scriptures.

فِيهَا كُتُبٞ قَيِّمَةٞ

3) Within which are correct writings [i.e., rulings and laws].

وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَتۡهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ

Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided(1829) until there had come to them clear evidence.

وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓاْ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤۡتُواْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ ٱلۡقَيِّمَةِ

And they were not commanded except to worship Allah [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give Zakkah. And that is the correct religion.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ شَرُّ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ

Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ

Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds – those are the best of creatures.

جَزَآؤُهُمۡ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ جَنَّٰتُ عَدۡنٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدٗاۖ رَّضِيَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَرَضُواْ عَنۡهُۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنۡ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُۥ

Their reward with Allah will be gardens or perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord.
