——————————————————————————–

Answer Key

1. Tafkheem is the rule for making a letter sound “heavy” by creating more space between the roof and the bottom of the mouth. In ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ, the letter قَ is pronounced with a high level of heaviness according to this rule.
2. The letter رِ in ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ is pronounced as Light (Muraqiq Ra’a) because the letter Raa has a Kasrah vowel.
3. Qalqalah is a phonetic rule applied to five specific letters: ق, ط, ب, ج, and د. An example from the text is the application of Qalqalah to the letter ب in the word ٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِ.
4. Ghunnah is a nasal sound. When a letter like ن or م has a Shaddah, it is read with a Ghunnah that is held for two vowel counts (Haraks).
5. Ikhfaa Haqeqe is a rule where a Noon Sakinah or Tanween is not pronounced from its Makhraj (point of articulation). Instead, only the Ghunnah (nasal sound) is pronounced.
6. “Idgham without Ghunnah” is a rule where a Tanween is merged into the following letter without a nasal sound. This rule always occurs with the letters ر (Ra’a) and ل (Lam).
7. In the word كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ, the letter هـ is described as having the characteristics of Hams (a running of breath) and Rakhawah (a running of air).

Surah AL Qariah translation ( Tafseer ) :

ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ

مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ What is the Striking Calamity?

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?

يَوۡمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلۡفَرَاشِ ٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِ       It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,

وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ ٱلۡمَنفُوشِ And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],

 فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ He will be in a pleasant life.

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ                      But as for one whose scales are light,

فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٞ                                      His refuge, will be an abyss.

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهۡ        And what can make you know what that is?

نَارٌ حَامِيَةُۢ It is a Fire, intensely hot.
