3. Explain the rule of Ikhfaa Haqeqe as it applies to the Noon Sakinah (ن) in the word ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ.
4. What is the rule for a Noon (ن) that has a Shaddah, and how many vowel counts does it receive?
5. What is Idgham with Ghunnah, and what instruction is given for its application in the phrase فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ?
6. Describe the rule of Idgham without Ghunnah as seen in the phrase أَشۡتَاتٗا لِّيُرَوۡاْ.
7. What is Ithaar Halqe and when does this rule apply, according to the example ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرٗا?
8. List the six letters that indicate the rule of Ithaar Halqe.

Answer Key

1. For the letters ذ, ث, and ظ, the tip of the tongue should be placed slightly out of the mouth. The pronunciation is similar to the “Th” sound in English.
2. The Alif at the end of زِلۡزَالَهَا is a Natural Madd. This means it should be held for two harakas, or vowel counts.
3. In ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ, the Noon Sakinah is followed by the letter سَٰ, which is one of the 15 Ikhfaa letters. For Ikhfaa Haqeqe, the Noon Sakinah is not pronounced from its Makhraj; only the Ghunnah is pronounced.
4. A Noon with a Shaddah should be read with Ghunnah. It is held for a duration of two vowel counts.
5. Idgham with Ghunnah occurs when a Noon Sakinah is followed by the letter ى (Ya’a). The rule requires inserting the Noon Sakinah into the Ya’a with a Ghunnah for two vowel counts.
6. Idgham without Ghunnah occurs when Tanween is followed by the letters ل (Laam) or ر (Ra). In the phrase أَشۡتَاتٗا لِّيُرَوۡاْ, the Tanween is dropped in reading because it is followed by Laam.
7. Ithaar Halqe means to pronounce the Tanween clearly. This rule applies when the Tanween is followed by one of the six Ithaar Halqe letters, such as the letter خ (Kha’a) in the example.
8. The six letters for Ithaar Halqe are ء, ه, ع, ح, غ, and خ.

Surah Al Zalzalah Translation ( Tafseer ) :

The best Quran teachers

إِذَا زُلۡزِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ زِلۡزَالَهَا When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake.

وَأَخۡرَجَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَثۡقَالَهَا               And the earth discharges its burdens.

وَقَالَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا                            And man says, “What is [wrong] with it?”

يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُحَدِّثُ أَخۡبَارَهَا That Day, it will report its news

بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوۡحَىٰ لَهَا Because your Lord has inspired it.

 يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَصۡدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشۡتَاتٗا لِّيُرَوۡاْ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ

That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories]to be shown [the result of] their deeds.

 فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرٗا يَرَهُۥ So whoever does an atom’s weight(1834) of good will see it,

 وَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٖ شَرّٗا يَرَهُۥ And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.
